Vegetarian Buffets in Hong Kong - Healthy HKG

These days, it’s not too difficult to find vegetarian options in Hong Kong, but if you’re looking for a place where you can indulge in all things vegetarian safely and with plenty of variety, there’s nothing better than a buffet.

Below, our newest contributor Steffi has tried and tasted her way through the city to bring you five of the best vegetarian buffet restaurants in Hong Kong:

My Meat Run Buddy 走肉朋友

A petite vegetarian buffet restaurant in Hong Kong with simplistic décor, My Meat Run Buddy has a variety of options to satisfy anything from your craving for carbs to mock meats to desserts. The friendly staff create a pleasant atmosphere, but the confined seating space might not be the most convenient for wheelchair users.

Highlighted dishes:

  • Sichuan-style vegetarian chicken (口水素雞)
  • Steamed vegetarian pork with pumpkin (南瓜蒸肉餅)

Prices: Lunch is HK$58 (takeaway) to HK$68 on weekdays and HK$70 (takeaway) to HK$90 on weekends and public holidays; dinner on Mondays to Thursdays is HK$80 (takeaway) to HK$125 for adults and HK$95 (takeaway) to HK$120 on Fridays, weekends and public holidays

Veggie Guy 素街

Veggie Guy is perfect for anyone who loves authentic Hong Kong cuisine—from traditional street-foods to dishes your mum would cook at home, Veggie Guy has got you…even better when you can choose from a variety of Chinese and Western desserts. A highly spacious restaurant located in a relatively quiet part of Kwun Tong, Veggie Guy is the go-to place for gatherings with friends.

Highlighted dishes:

  • Traditional Chinese five-spiced stew (滷水蛋)
  • Tomato and assorted vegetable soup (蕃茄薯仔湯)
  • Mini waffles (迷你格仔餅)

Ahimsa Buffet 無肉食

I would recommend going to Ahimsa Buffet with an empty stomach because new dishes are constantly coming out… even within one buffet seating. The deep-fried section is a must-try: you know it’s worth it when you can’t even tell if it was vegan ‘fishball’ and vegan katsu ‘pork-chop’. However, labels for each dish are urgently needed as there were none, except labels that indicate dishes containing egg and/or dairy. (N.B. the above applies to the Mong Kok branch – the situations in the other branches may be different).

Highlighted dishes:

  • Deep-fried vegan ‘katsu pork chop’ and ‘fishball’ (炸物- 吉列豬扒,炸魚蛋)
  • Traditional Chinese ginger and vinegar stew (薑醋)
  • Sweet and sour dried bean curd (酸甜齋)

Prices: Lunch is HK$70 and dinner is HK$120 on Monday to Fridays; while lunch is HK$80 and dinner is HK$140 on weekends and public holidays

Ahimsa Buffet (Mong Kok), 2/F, 88 Sai Yee Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong, +852 2889 2938; Ahimsa Buffet (Jordan), G/F, 8 Tak Hing Street, Jordan, Hong Kong, +852 2668 6658; Ahimsa Buffet, North Point, Shop B, G/F, Wah Hai Mansion, 10-16 Fort Street, North Point, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong, +852 2528 2368

Everyday Veggie每日素食

Located on a quiet street right off Nathan Road, the buffet at Everyday Veggie is ideal for a post-shopping energy recharge. Their Instagram-friendly bite-sized appetizers and desserts are all unique, meaning that you can really try a bit of everything without getting too stuffed or wasting food. Don’t miss the soup section as there’s an impressive variety of home-made soups.

Highlighted dishes:

  • Sweet and sour deep-fried walnut(素咕嚕肉)
  • Salt and pepper sweetcorn (椒鹽栗米)
  • Japanese green tea and yam cake (緣茶芋頭夾餅)

Prices: Lunch is HK$88, afternoon tea is HK$68 and dinner is HK$138 on weekdays (Monday to Thursdays); lunch is HK$108, afternoon tea is HK$88 and dinner is HK$168 on Fridays, weekends and public holidays

Veggie One 素一

The first thing that caught my eye at Veggie One’s buffet was the sushi section, and the variety of rolls to choose from was truly amazing. For those who love carbs, this is your go-to place: from sushi, stir-fried flat rice noodles to multi-grain fried rice, you can indulge in all that and more. The place can be quite packed during the busy hours though, so try to go at a quieter time (for afternoon tea) if you’d like to enjoy your meal comfortably.

Highlighted dishes:

  • Assorted sushi (各款壽司)
  • Fried vegetables roll (煎腐皮卷)
  • Vegetarian stir-fried udon (素肉炒烏冬)

Prices: Lunch is HK$75, afternoon tea is HK$68 and dinner is HK$168 on Monday to Friday; lunch is HK$98, afternoon tea is HK$78 and dinner is HK$188 on weekends and public holidays

Veggie One, Shop B04, Basement, Tower 535, 535 Jaffe Road, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong, +852 2328 2102
